What is your worship service like?
Jesus said, "God is a Spirit and they that worship him MUST worship him in spirit and in truth." John 4:24
The Scriptural format for Christian worship:
- Prayers of faith I Cor 14:15
- Congregational singing Eph 5:19; Col 3:16
- Contribution I Cor 16:1-2; II Cor 9:7
- Communion I Cor 11:23-29; Acts 20:7
- Teaching I Cor 14:23-40; Acts 20:7
These items constitute the scriptural pattern for worship, plainly stated. Thus:
- We offer prayers without candles, beads, etc.
- We sing without instrumental music.
- Our contributions are free-will offerings on the first day of the week. We do not require members to tithe ten percent. There's no such commandment in the New Testament.
- We commune on the first day of EVERY week, not just selected occasions. Every week has a first day. We use the elements of unleavened bread and fruit of the vine.
- We meet in the assembly (husbands, wives, and children worship together as a family). Only men may teach in the public assembly. I Cor 14:23; I Tim 2:11-13
